UFC’s PPV Platform Concept

I’ve been following the UFC for a long time, the way the sport has grown over that time its staggering, but unfortunately, the platform that they use for their video library and PPV events, its a bit dated, having not evolved to adapt to the last standards. This creates a problem on the side of the User Experience.

I think this can be improved drastically without making a huge effort, with this in mind, I decide to give it a shot and present my take at how it could be done better.

If you are not familiar with the current platform, here is an image showing the average PPV Event Page. In the future I plan on working on a redesign for the Mobile App as well.

One of the Main issues is the lack of integration between the fighters information and the fight being played. In the current state, you can either see the complete fight card or the fight, this creates a disconnect between what is going on over the video player, and all the information about the fights served on the page. Using the dead space created from the ratio of the video player, I was able to fight the fighters info on a sidebar, this way, everything is together, and when you are watching a fight, you can see all the info about it, and the rest of the fight card as well.

The platform also handles notifications in a way that takes a good portion of the viewport, and this is a problem because most of the time, there is a notification present until you dismiss it. With this problems in mind, I worked on a toast design for the notifications, and added some actions for the user to take with them. I’ve also included the image related to the event, so you can see with no effort what the platform is notifying you about.

The controls for the player also received an overhaul, they are not longer separated in a bar, they are now present only when you hover the video. The event title and image are also shown at the top left of the player. In this regard I took inspiration from Twitch.tv, where the experience is focused on the video player, as I think it should also be for the UFC.
